Snowpainters
Level Designer
From February 2021 to April 2021 at SMU Guildhall, I worked as a level/track designer for the 3D kart racer Snowpainters, made in Unreal 4. For this project, that time frame included pre-production to beta milestones.
During those months, my responsibilities varied from:
Genre research
Track design
Gameplay design
Environmental design.
This included 3D art assets placements, applying conveyance philosophies, and terrain/environment design for tracks 1, 3, and the tutorial.

Due to the team having a small art department, a lot of the artistic implementation was tasked onto myself and other level designers; from that, I both learned a lot about the more traditionally "art" side of development and grew to really love environment design, and learned so much about how the related tools in Unreal 4 worked.

Snowpainters was the first game where I had zero creative control or input. I worked only with what was given to me by my leads. My choices for terrain, conveyance, and art impacted my direct partners on each level who were working on gameplay. It was a sharp, but rewarding learning curve!
