Florere Memoriae

Level Designer & Narrative Designer

From February 2022 to May 2022 at Abertay University, I worked as level designer/narrative designer on the 3D open world relaxing game Florere Memoriae.

As level designer and narrative designer, my combined role had me responsible for a variety things, ranging from:

  • Level design & layout, from concepts to final product.

  • Gameplay design.

  • Narrative details inspired by the Victorian flower language combined with the study of what makes relaxing play.

This game was a study on relaxing play, and the interpretation of what makes games truly relaxing. From this, I put forward to my team of 6 the idea of using nostalgia as our narrative vehicle. From there, our desire to include something thematically unique is where the idea to use the Victorian flower language to guide both the artistic and narrative themes came from.
